Chapter One – Of Fire and Memories
She watched. It was all she could do. The building was barely standing now, it had been so long. Flames leapt and danced. They were charring wood, melting plastic, and turning memories to ash. The pack on her back was all she had, all she had taken with her. It was all she could bare to carry.
The woman’s body inside was long gone, disintegrated by the fire. A funeral fit for a king, with only one witness. Unfortunately, this was a witness whom seldom few would ever meet, let alone believe.
